W.J. Holsgrove Public School Family Update
January 23rd, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello Huskie Families,
We have had a record number of snow days this month due to inclement weather. Hopefully more consistent weather is on the way. We look forward to brighter days ahead and getting back into a steady routine at school! As colder temperatures continue in the coming weeks, please be sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather, including warm coats, hats, boots, and snow pants if needed. We also encourage sending an extra pair of mittens/gloves and socks. Students play outside for two recesses everyday unless there are fridgid temperatures or heavy rain.
Please be aware that Holsgrove PS is a scent free school. We have students and staff who experience severe physical reactions when exposed to artifically made scents. The most severe reactions stem from colognes, perfumes, and body sprays. Please do not not wear scents at Holsgrove, apply them before you come to school, or apply them while at school. Thank you for your help with this.
Have a wonderful weekend.
J. Cole, Principal

Frozen Production - Important Information
Mark your calendars... the show date has been set for Wednesday March 4th for both a matinee at 12:00 pm and an evening show at 6:30 pm. A new rehearsal schedule for the month of January and an important note was sent home before the break with your child. Please help them highlight their lines and memorize them and also highlight which practices they will be needed at on the rehearsal schedule. There has been some confusion and some forgetting despite having it on the school announcements. Chasing these kids down leads to us having less practice time in our short 40 minute rehearsal block. We are hoping the kids will be off script by January 26th. We have started blocking and choreographing so it is very important for them to attend all rehearsals they are needed for. Thanks for your help with this! It's going to be a great show!
The Frozen Production Team
School Council
The focus of School Council is to meet to discuss events and fundraisers at Holsgrove, bring up issues with administration, and plan special opportunities for students and families. The support they provide to our students and staff is invaluable. Our next School Council meeting will be held Tuesday, January 27th at 5:30 in the Gr. 5/6 classroom.
All Holsgrove parents/guardians are invited to join us. Hope to see you there!

Host an International Student - Be a Part of Kingston's Global Community
Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Kingston, and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families in Limestone. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.
We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark.
Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. Our International Education team works hard to make a great match for your family, that can last a lifetime.
Families can learn more by visiting Limestone’s International Education website or phoning the International Education offices at 613-544-7745 ext. 288.

Bus Cancellations
As we have seen several times already this year, sometimes buses are cancelled due to inclement weather. The decision to cancel buses is made by Triboard, in consultation with Limestone District School Board, early in the morning. This decision may be based on active weather in the morning or forecast weather for later in the day. We will send an email to families in the morning when buses are cancelled, but you can also sign up for notifications at https://triboard.ca/snowdays/. Please remember that if you drive your children to school on inclement weather days our supervision starts at 8:55 a.m. and students must be picked up by 3:30. If they are staying home due to weather or bus related cancellations, please report the absence through SafeArrival to avoid an attendance call. Please note that when buses are cancelled our Hot Lunch program is also cancelled for the day.

Hot Lunch Schedule
Please note that when buses are cancelled due to weather our hot lunch program will also be cancelled for the day. Families will be notified of this by email from the school prior to the start of the school day. Families will be refunded the cost of the lunch for that day.
