While the forecast is calling for rain, it’s certainly a welcome change compared to the surprise snowfall we experienced earlier this week. The shift is a good reminder that warmer days are just around the corner. We are currently in the process of beginning our preparations for the 2026–2027 school year. If your child(ren) will not be returning to Collins Bay next year, we kindly ask that you please reach out to the school as soon as possible so that we can take this into account when planning class placements for next year. This creates significant congestion and requires everyone’s full attention. Please be mindful of the clearly posted “No Parking” signs, which indicate where parking is not permitted, and help keep traffic flowing safely. We ask all families to proceed with caution, follow signage, and remain patient so we can work together to ensure the safety of all students and community members. Please also note that City of Kingston by-law officers will be monitoring and enforcing these regulations.Thank you in advance for your adherence to these important safety protocols <hr><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">School Council</h3> The focus of School Council is to meet to discuss events and fundraisers at Holsgrove, bring up issues with administration, and plan special opportunities for students and families. The support they provide to our students and staff is invaluable. Our next School Council meeting will be held Tuesday, May 5th at 5:30 in the Gr. 5/6 classroom. All Holsgrove parents/guardians are invited to join us. Hope to see you there! <hr><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">School-Year Calendar 2026-27</h3> The Ministry of Education has approved the school year calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. The school year will start on September 1 (P.A. Day) and the first day of classes for students is on September 2, 2026. A printable calendar along with the 5-day cycle calendar are posted on the Board website here: <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/school-year-calendar" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">https://www.limestone.on.ca/school-year-calendar </a><hr><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Mathematical Fluency</h3> In math, students are building fluency by learning and practicing a variety of strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Fluency means more than just getting the right answer—it is the ability to work with numbers flexibly, efficiently, and with confidence. Students are exploring different approaches such as breaking numbers apart, using known facts, and applying mental math strategies to solve problems in ways that make sense to them. By developing these skills, students deepen their understanding of numbers and become more confident, adaptable mathematicians. We would like to remind families that there will be no school next week on Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Monday (April 6). Primary classes will be invited to join from 1:50 to 2:30 and the Junior/Intermediate classes from 2:30 to 3:15.  A donation of $2.00 can be given through School Day or brought to the dance (optional). Opportunities like this are so valuable to our students’ development, building confidence, creativity, collaboration skills, and a strong sense of responsibility. Our performers and crew demonstrated remarkable dedication, perseverance, and hard work as they prepared for the stage, and it truly showed in the quality of the performances. A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Olsen, Ms. Casutt, Ms. Hughes and Ms. Corsi for generously giving up their lunch hours, after-school time, and evenings to ensure the play was such a success. We are also deeply grateful to our families and community members who came out to support our students—their smiles and applause meant the world to our cast and crew!As we approach March Break, we hope all of our families are looking forward to a restful and enjoyable week together. With warmer weather on the way, our school yard is especially muddy and wet at this time of year. We kindly ask families to send children with appropriate outdoor clothing, including waterproof boots and an extra pair of socks, to help keep them comfortable and dry throughout the day. To help everyone feel comfortable and supported, we will be offering an alternate, quiet space for students who are fasting during these times. This space gives them a chance to relax, read, or spend time with friends away from food areas. We’re proud to support our students’ diverse traditions and appreciate our school community’s kindness and understanding during this special time. Welcome to W. J. Holsgrove Public School, home of the Huskies! We are a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in Westbrook. We believe in preparing students to be responsible, caring and contributing citizens who contribute to the development of safe and supportive schools. We also work to help students develop emotional and social skills as the requisite balance to cognitive or academic achievement.

Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Results are shared only as grouped summaries and are used to support learning, planning, and improvement at the board, school, and school council levels.The survey will be open from May 1 to May 11 and will be available online. Families will receive an e-mail on May 1 with a link to the survey. Paper copies will also be available at your school’s administrative office starting May 1.The survey was developed with input from families and advisory committees, including the Parent Involvement Committee, to reflect a wide range of perspectives. Message from the Director

Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/documents/dff6803b-6f2d-4d36-a758-68758a63ceb3/2026-04-09-Student-Human-Rights-Data-Summary-for-2024-2025.pdf" class="editor-link">Student Human Rights Reports – 2024-2025 Summary is now available online</a> and can be accessed by families. Student Census 2025 UpdateIn November 2025, Limestone completed the See Yourself in Limestone: Student Census 2025, a voluntary and confidential survey that helps us better understand students’ identities and school experiences. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation.
